Throughout the preschool day, children have access to and participate in many activities that support positive peer interaction, play skills, fine and gross motor development, self-help skills, as well as cognition and language. Our program is a balance of child and teacher directed activities, and Kindergarten readiness skills are incorporated into each day's lesson plan; some of these skills include pre-writing, fine motor activities, gross motor games, as well as song and dance experiences. We also strongly encourage manners, self-help skills i.e. dressing, toileting, independence and problem solving abilities.
Our program helps to support children by expanding concepts and encouraging them to discover the how's and why's of what they are interested in. Basic school readiness skills are further defined as children explore not just the ABC's and 123's but also measuring, comparing, charting, and the relationships between numbers (ie. Addition, subtraction etc.). Topics that are often in our program include culture and diversity, the earth and surrounding environment, language, science, history and family, as children strive to understand the world around them.
Communication with parents is also a key element in the Preschool Program. We encourage open dialogue with all our parents.
The Toddler Program is designed to enhance each child's natural love of learning, independence, and self-discipline. Our environment focuses on the whole child and is designed to promote their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development.
The children have the opportunity, throughout the day, to have free play-time and utilize the learning tools that are available to them in order to explore and learn together as a group or individually on their own. We implement a circle for the children and have art activities set up daily for them. This exposes them to songs, books and all of the messy, sticky art that kids love. The children are given outdoor experiences giving them the opportunity to play as a group and explore the world around them in a natural setting.
The goals of the program are to foster good learning habits, language development, motor control, social development, as well as learn how to deal with controntation in a constructive manner, to respect the worth of another child, and to develop a positive attitude toward school and learning.
